Initial situation
The client, Mr Hanspeter Stutz, was able to take over the ‘Neustadt Pharmacy’ from the previous owner. The pharmacy was getting on in years and no longer met the legal standards. Global Shop Design was commissioned to design and modernise the pharmacy thanks to its longstanding relationship with the client.

Task
The former ‘Neustadt Pharmacy’ is steeped in tradition and very well known in Lucerne. The building is located in a protected zone in a trendy part of the city. The appearance and façade of the new ‘Pharmacy Neustadt’ had to be retained. At the same time, the identity of the old pharmacy was to be preserved and modernised. The premises and work processes were to be optimised. The pharmacy was to be brought up to current legal standards and an improved staff lounge was to be created.

Solution
As part of the refurbishment, the basement was waterproofed and a new toilet with an anteroom was installed in the former fire cellar in the basement. A modern staff cloakroom was also planned.
A modern laboratory in the form of a separate cube was installed in the store room. This protects it in the event of flooding or water ingress. The second storeroom was also fitted with new shelving.
The space saved on the ground floor allowed for the installation of a new lounge with integrated kitchen and additional workstations. The wooden shelves previously used to store medicines were replaced with new medicine drawers in the back office and a more efficient goods receiving area was planned.
A wall on the ground floor to the old office was removed, significantly increasing the sales area. The former large consulting and storage room was divided into two separate consulting rooms.
The ‘Pharmacy Neustadt’ has an individual and charming atmosphere, characterised by antique wooden furniture. Our aim was to preserve this atmosphere while modernising it. To achieve this, we restored the antique wall shelving and painted the upper cabinets blue to match the new terrazzo floor. As part of the redesign, new shelving, a cashier’s desk and modern gondolas were added.
The highlight is Schwung’s Molecule pendant luminaires, which tie the whole interior together into a harmonious whole.
